F5VAG's Web and APRS-IS Server

My server box uses two PIII CPUs at 866 MHz, 1 GB of RAM, a server NIC with off-loading and an SCSI HD; the OS is XP PRO SP2. The server is connected to the Internet via my LAN and a router with integrated ADSL modem and WiFi access. Connection speed is 7.6M/800kbit/s ATM. Traffic- and CPU-load of this server can be seen here.

The following software runs on this server:

  • G4IDE's UI-View32 with UI-WebServer.
A second copy of UI-View32 is running on the server to show the local posits icons on a map of the region.
  • Apache 2 WebServer. This server is used to serve the PHP-script pages and also as proxy for the UI-WebServer so that both servers can share port 80 and the send data are gzipped, if the client's browser allows it. You get the best performance with modern Browsers like Firefox 2 or MSIE 7.
  • AE5PL's Java APRS-IS server. Server ID is T2FRANCE. The status page is accessible on port 14501. A description of the service ports and more information is available here.
  • PRTG Pro Traffic Grapher for the graphical presentation of the statistical data. The program uses the SNMP functions of XP pro to monitor the server. PRTG is also used to monitor my Router via the SNMP interface.

The majority of the static contents of the pages you see, e.g. pictures, is not on the local server but on a server located at my ISP's site with high-speed connections.

Some of my PHP scripts (Maps for the UI-WebServer, Tier2 Status Page, Packet Error Monitor and UI-View Log File Converter) run also on this other server in order to benefit from the larger bandwidth.

Comments and questions are welcome.
